BYB Acting – Audition Training and Actor Workshops

At Giants, we love theatre that is thrilling, surprising, dangerous, thought-provoking, risky, hilarious, shocking. Our acting workshops aim to help actors make it look so easy that they don’t appear to be acting at all. We will help you to make the text come alive and create characters that are real, vibrant and your own.

If you’re auditioning for drama school, if you’re a professional looking to hone your craft, or if you teach acting, Giants offers workshops for you.

Giants has a strong history of collaborating with leading theatre practitioners to bring you excellent training. They include TV and film director Sallie Aprahamian, (Lip Service, The Worst Witch, Eastenders), leading actors including Geraldine James (Utopia, Anne of Green Gables), Kate O’Flynn (No Offence, Happy-Go-Lucky, Bridget Jones Baby), David Schwimmer (Friends, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, Band of Brothers), and one of the UK’s top casting directors, Robert Sterne (Game of Thrones, Wolf Hall).

Giants regular programme of workshops includes:

  • Drama School Auditions
  • Acting for Camera
  • Classical text and Shakespeare
  • Contemporary text for casting
  • How to run an exciting drama course for children, or drama students

Contemporary session: Saturday 10th February

The focus of this second workshop will be on finding the truth and sparkle in your contemporary monologue. After working together on developing character and spontaneity, you will perform your monologue in front of the group. During the last part of the afternoon you will take part in a ‘mock’ audition, performing your classical and modern pieces together in an audition situation, and be given specific feedback on your performance.

The workshop will be led by Giants’ Artistic Director, Jennie Buckman who not only has decades of experience of working in theatre, but also has first-hand experience of auditioning thousands of prospective students as the former Head of Acting at RADA.

Throughout the course of the two days, Jennie will give detailed direction to help ensure you give your best possible performance when you step in to the audition room. Giants works collaboratively, so there will also be opportunities to learn from the coaching of others in the group.

The cost of the two day workshop is £150, with early bird places available at the reduced rate of £135 if booked and paid for before 31st December. We will also be offering two single-workshop places per day at a cost of £75.  (Payment is required to secure your place. (Maximum 16 participants per session.)
