Never Going To Beat You 2016-17

We arranged the wedding ourselves, I didn’t care if my Mummy came or not! I was so in love, so sure about him. And besides, he promised me…  He said “I’m never going to beat you!”

In 2015, Irish women from The Traveller Movement approached Giants after seeing video clips of Unspoken,  the street-theatre piece on domestic violence that Giants co-created with Southall Black Sisters. They wanted to collaborate with us to create a play that explored domestic violence within their community.

Over a period of 18 months, Jennie Buckman worked with the women and created Never Going To Beat You. The piece told the story of Moira, a tragic victim of domestic violence, and the effect her death has on her family and the community. The play was performed by the women contributors and one male professional actor at The Blue Elephant Theatre, London in July 2016.

The play has provoked conversation about publically owning that domestic violence exists in the community and The Traveller Movement hope to tour Never Going To Beat You to different communities to continue to explore this critical topic.
