Lilith 2018

Lilith is due to go into production in 2018 with the research and development well underway.

The Burney Relief, Mesopotamia (1800-1750 BCE). Thought to be a depiction of Lilith, held at the British Museum

In Jewish folklore, Lilith appears as Adam’s first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same dirt as Adam. They were created as equals with neither one being superior or dominant. But legend has it that Adam insisted he was in charge and Lilith must obey his demands. When Lilith refused to take on the subservient role, Adam appealed to God to give him a different partner: so Eve was created from his rib and Lilith was written out of history…

Giants Theatre Company’s new play Lilith will pose the question: if we were all descendants of Adam and Lilith, rather than Adam and Eve, what kind of world would it be?
